French For All

Supporting Foreign Language Education Across the United States

Today, languages are more important than ever to understand diverse communities, excel in the business world and tackle global challenges. Yet, in the US, only 20% of students in K12 institutions and higher education are enrolled in foreign language courses compared to 83% of students in the European Union.

French for All is an initiative of the French Embassy in the United States and FACE Foundation powered by our belief that foreign language education should not be a privilege but rather a basic right for the the next generation of learners in a globalized world.

Through our growing network of programs to make bilingualism accessible to a wider and more diverse audience, French for all cultivates customized French language access from kindergarten through higher education.

French for All encompasses 4 Programs:

French Dual Language Fund expands and supports bilingual K-12 programs in American public schools. These programs focus on Title 1 schools (where the majority of students qualify for free or reduced lunch) and reach communities in over 30 US states.

French Heritage Language Program helps high school students develop their language skills as an asset in their new life in the US through programs such as AP coursework, college prep, and programs in the arts, all with a spotlight on West African and Caribbean cultures.

French in Higher Education Program supports the modernization of university French departments through calls for projects encouraging innovation in teaching, as well as faculty training and professional internships in France for American students. The program encourages an integration of humanities coursework with diverse academic pathways and majors across disciplines.

New Pathways to Teaching French Program leverages the skills of French speaking Americans of all backgrounds to train a new generation of French teachers to meet the needs of bilingual learners.
