There is a single application system for the French Voices Award, Hemingway Grant and Acquisition of Rights programs. But there are some restrictions on the grants and awards that can be combined:
> You can not receive a Hemingway grant AND a French Voices Program for the same book.
> You can not receive a grant from the CNL AND a Hemingway Grant
> You can not receive Burgess Grant (UK) AND a Hemingway Grant
Any other combination is possible. You could for instance receive a French Voices Award + an Acquisition of Rights grant and a CNL grant. Please refer to chart below for more info.

Projects awarded a French Voices Award or/and Acquisition of Rights Grant are also eligible for the Centre National du Livre (CNL)Grant, which is awarded by the for a work translated into English. There is a separate application process for this grant, which must be completed by the French publisher. It is not compatible with the Hemingway Grant program.

For a classic French Voices Award: The French Voices Award rewards both the American publisher and the translator with a total prize of $6,000. The full amount will be transferred to the publisher of each selected project: $4,000 to cover the preface and publishing costs and a $2,000 non-negotiable bonus to be allocated to the translator ($5,000 and $1,000 respectively in case of a comic book or picture book).

For example: I am not an American translator. Can I submit an application to the French Voices program?
You need not be an American citizen to apply; however, the publishing house of the work in translation must be American.
For all grants, American publishers and agents can submit as many applications as they wish. Other applicants can only submit two applications for each session.
If my project does not receive a translation assistance grant, can I re-submit my application?
You cannot submit the same application twice.
Support is given to works of fiction, non-fiction, children, comic books and poetry. The three programs do not support textbooks and pratical books and hard science works.
Please submit only the requested forms. We will not consider additional documents in the selection process.
The French Voices Awards will only consider contracts with a minimum of 500 printed copies and will not consider print-on-demand or ebooks only contracts.
