From Brittany to the Bronx

For the fifth consecutive year, French Heritage Students from International Community High school welcomed French high schoolers from Lycée Jeanne D’Arc St Ivy, in Bretagne.

They toured the school, shared lunch and exchanged their experiences in high school, talking about the differences between France and the US. Au programme: pizza, music, great conversations!

The FHLP students from this Bronx high school don’t have many opportunities to exchange with students from other schools, let alone from another country. This visit was the perfect illustration of the  doors bilingualism could open: speaking the same language allow them to break down geographical but also racial and cultural barriers.

A project of virtual exchange is now in the works to allow students to maintain the relationships they’ve created and meet virtually throughout the school year around projects.
