French dual language programs offer bilingual education and an exceptional multicultural learning environment to children in public schools across the United States. With classes conducted in both French and English, these programs draw from the best educational models that both countries have to offer.

In recent years, demand for French dual language education in the United States has been on the rise. Today, more than 29,000 students benefit from a public bilingual education with more than 150 French dual language programs in 88 cities nationwide.

Inauguration of the
French Dual Language Fund

Under the high auspices of President Emmanuel Macron of the Republic of France, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and FACE Foundation inaugurated the French Dual Language Fund on September 20, 2017 at an event co-hosted by The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

What is the French Dual Language Fund?

The French Dual Language Fund was created by the French Embassy and its partners in response to the increasing demand for dual language education programs in public schools, where funds for such programs are often limited.

The French Dual Language Fund aims to address the most critical needs of the network, including teacher training and retention, access to French pedagogical resources, and native speaker presence in classrooms, while supporting the expansion of new programs in public schools across the US.

The Fund’s three main initiatives include:

Offer financial support to schools through annual grants that target their most pressing needs

Provide scholarships to aspiring bilingual teachers as they pursue specialized graduate programs and continuing education

Facilitate the recruitment of teaching interns from France

The French Dual Language Fund is made possible by contributions from:
Chanel, Inc., BIC, The Florence Gould Foundation, The Alfred and Jane Ross Foundation, AXA, Best Buy, the Société des Professeurs Français et Francophones dAmérique, and Whole Foods.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, the French Dual Language Fund will support, by 2022, the expansion of bilingual education through the following initiatives:

Support pedagogical projects in 200 schools ($150,000/year in grants).

Allocate scholarships for 120 future teachers ($180,000/year in scholarships).

Fund 75 interns from France ($70,000/year in stipends).

We have currently raised $1.4 million of our goal of $2 million to support these initiatives over the next five years. Additional support will enable us to further expand the impact of bilingual education nationwide.
