Supporting French-American Cultural Exchange in Education and the Arts

Etant donnés Residencies
Grants to French & France-based artists
For a residency taking place between June 1, 2020 & June 30, 2021

Institut français-Paris, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d'Art (France's art galleries association), and FACE Foundation joined forces in 2017 to launch a new residency program: Etant donnés Residencies, in order to support French visual artists seeking to spend 2 to 4 months in the United States, as long as their residency is organized in partnership with an American organization.

Guidelines

Etant donnés Residencies support French visual artists seeking to spend 2 to 4 months in the United States, in order to pursue research or develop specific projects in collaboration with an American organization. The residency will enable them to become immersed in the American art world and develop new contacts and networks. It aims to promote the integration of French artists into the American contemporary arts scene and generate collaborative projects that may continue beyond the residency.

Etant donnés Residencies is intended for French artists (or those living in France for more than 3 to 5 years) who have already initiated a collaboration with a partner organization in the United States willing to support their research, facilitate the development of their artistic project, and help them develop their network. They will also be assisted by the teams of Institut français-Paris and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.

In 2020, 4 artists will be selected by Etant donnés' Artistic Committee:

The Etant donnés-Institut français
Residency: 3 grants

-3 artists (French or based in France for a minimum of 5 years) will be awarded a grant of 10,000 euros maximum allocated by Institut Français-Paris. This grant will help them cover the costs of a 2 to 4 months residency that will take place between June 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.

The Etant Donnés-CPGA
Residency: 1 grant

-1 artist (French or based in France for a minimum of 3 years) will be awarded a grant of 10,000 dollars by the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d'Art (France's art galleries association). This artist must be represented by a gallery member of this association, and his or her residency must take place between June 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
