French-American Creative Lab

The French-American Creative Lab is an interdisciplinary program for startups from the cultural and creative industries. It was launched in 2015 by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York and co-produced with Business France.

A creative and economic development program for startups from the cultural sector, the Creative Lab enables French entrepreneurs to adapt their products to the American market. Through workshops, conferences, networking events and business meetings, the Creative Lab provides participants access to new ecosystems and leaders of the local creative and tech industries.

Besides workshops and trainings sessions, a significant amount of time is dedicated to one-on-one business meetings. Many networking events throughout the program present opportunities for startups to promote their projects and develop their business network.

From Silicon Alley to Silicon Beach
New York is a global leader in many industries (such as media, finance, arts, marketing, virtual reality, and fashion) that were all recently impacted by technological disruption. Conveniently located midway between France and the West Coast and home to over 1,000 cultural organizations, New York was a natural choice for welcoming the French-American Creative Lab.

In 2017, the French-American Creative Lab will broaden its scope by adding a leg in Los Angeles, the third technological hub in the United States. The LA tech scene is booming, benefiting from many investment funds and its close proximity to Hollywood. The presence of major music industries has established the city of Los Angeles as a key place for startups specializing in entertainment.

The French-American Creative Lab program will thus offer the participants a complete insight of entrepreneurial possibilities in the United States.

10 days to boost the expansion of French startups in the United States
The French-American Creative Lab is a 10-day intensive program for startups from the cultural and creative industries willing to expand into the US market in the next 12 to 24 months. The purpose of this immersion into the New York and Los Angeles landscape is to help French entrepreneurs adapt their products or services to the American consumer and define a marketing strategy for the US market, as well as establish contacts and networks to prepare for the product launch in the United States.

Besides workshops and trainings sessions, a significant amount of time is dedicated to one-on-one business meetings. Many networking events throughout the program present opportunities for startups to promote their projects and develop their business network.

A vast array of skills to help entrepreneurs
The French-American Creative Lab is based on the skills of incubators (such as Made in NY Media Center by IFP in New York and 18Havas.ios in Los Angeles), leading hosts who develop the program alongside with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and Business France, and on the expertise of professionals who intervene throughout the program.

The French-American Creative Lab offers the participants access to the complementary networks of its two co-producers. The Cultural Services open the doors of local cultural institutions such as: museums, theaters, television channels, audiovisual producers, virtual reality/augmented reality studios, publishing houses, gaming companies, music producers, media, etc. With its strong experience in developing French companies abroad, Business France provides participants with access to potential American partners - selected according to their profiles and to their market approach strategies.

The French-American Creative Lab is supported by the Institut français.
