Following an annual application call, FACE Contemporary Theater offers financial support in the form of grants to French or American nonprofit institutions that present or produce the artists. Projects are evaluated and selected by an independent artistic committee.
For the next cycle (2019-2020), only projects taking place between June 1st, 2019, and August 31st, 2020, are eligible
ONLY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE.
— American organizations must demonstrate their 501(c)(3) status granted by the IRS. French organizations must provide proof of equivalent nonprofit status for eligibility.
— American organizations must present a project that involves French or France-based artists, or a project by artists from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East as long as their work is co-produced by French cultural institutions.
— French institutions must present a project that involves at least one American theater artist or U.S based artist.
— The organization (presenter, festival, university…) must show a clear financial and artistic commitment towards the project.
— Productions of classical French repertory theater are not eligible through this program.
— FACE Contemporary Theater doesn’t support publications.
— In case of a company or an artist touring the partner country with several stops, each cultural organization presenting the artist/company can apply individually. If more than 3 organizations are concerned, contact the Program Officer
— Companies and ensembles may submit applications to FACE Contemporary Theater only if they have identified one or several presenting partners who have indicated in writing their willingness to participate in the collaboration.
— No grants are awarded to individual artists.
— Previous FACE Contemporary Theater Grantees may reapply for the same project in subsequent years if the project has developed significantly (for example, an institution that benefited from a grant for the first phase of the development of a project, can reapply a second year for the production and tour if this is the case).
— When performed in the United States, productions including texts must be performed either in English or in French with titles or simultaneous translation.
— When performed in France, productions including texts in English must be performed with French titles or simultaneous translation.
— FACE Contemporary Theater grants support up to 50% expenses related to the artistic project such as artists’ fees, housing, perdiem, travel, visa expenses, equipment rentals related to the production, and cannot exceed the amount $20,000.
FACE Contemporary Theater cannot cover front of the house expenses.
Prior to the deadline, applicant organizations should contact FACE Contemporary Theater representative to ensure the eligibility of the artist or company for whom they wish to apply.
